Flies. Everywhere.

G'day folks!  I figured my last post would be the last one you guys would receive before I headed off to Fraser Island, but just consider this an Easter treat! ;-) ha.

Like always, Australia is great and the weather is still perfect even though it is "Fall."  It is not as humid but the sun is still unbelievably hot.  I wish I could explain in words how beaming hot it feels here.  Sometimes I hope for clouds in the sky because I need a break from its intensity!  I am still doing pretty well with the sunscreen!  I have yet to get fried. knock on wood.  I have grown to get some pretty good tan lines though!  Well.. for being me anyways.

Yesterday (Friday), we read on the forecast that it was suppose to be BEAUTIFUL weather so we booked a trip to Byron Bay for the day!  It was amazing as usual and we spent the day laying on the beach and swimming in the ocean.  The waves were HUGE so I spent quite a bit of time in the ocean diving through them, ducking under them, getting wiped out by some, and body surfing on a few.  I think my body was even sore today from getting thrown around by them.  Haha.  But, it was a blast!  I was completely exhausted, and passed out for quite some time after I returned to Lismore.  I almost felt a little sick because my body was so tired.

I have still not completed my papers.  I am at the point where I write a bit, leave, come back and write a couple more sentences etc. etc.  I guess you could say I am catching on with this laid back lifestyle which seems to be a bit frightening.  I am still good with deadlines but I am just not in a hurry I guess!  Most of the Australians here have gone home to be with their families for Easter and the Americans that aren't going on one of the 3 excursions (Byron Bay Surfing, The outback, or Fraser Island) are out traveling on their own.  Needless too say, the place is a ghost town.  Those of us that are left are planning to make a Easter lunch/dinner tomorrow since none of us are going to be home with our families.  It will be quite ghetto but fun!

I am looking forward to Fraser on Monday!  It will be a lot of traveling to get there so hopefully it will be worth it!  I am setting a goal.  When I go to the beach this next week I want to have my Toes in the water, ass in the sand, not a worry in the world, and a cold beer in my hand.  If none of you have caught on.. it's from the song "Toes" that is on my play list of music on this page.  I will keep you posted how it goes!  It will be hard considering a beer will probably cost me about 10 dollars but I want to make it happen.

Anyways.. I wanted to leave this story for the end of the blog.  Last week we had heaps of flies killed by the window in our living room.  They are UNBELIEVABLE here.  I almost wanted to take a picture of all the dead flies on the ground (I would guess about 100) but it was so disgusting that I figured it was not something I wanted to remember about my trip here to Australia.  After they were cleaned up I didn't have a second thought about anything.  However.. about 5 days later... Right when I was leaving for Byron Bay on Friday morning my room mate pointed out something on the living room floor.  Bet you can't guess what it was!! HUNDREDSSS of MAGGOTS covering my living room floor.  It was the most repulsive thing.  That's all I need to say, I think talking about it more would make me gag.  To save myself the trouble, I will leave the imagination to all you at home.

The flies are still everywhere here.  I killed seven in my bedroom alone yesterday and I think I am on 3 or 4 for today.  The screen does not fit the window, therefore, it leaves just enough of a gap for any flies that are looking for a nice home.  I sleep with a shoe next to my bed in case any fly tries to test me.  After the maggot accident I am beyond worried about coming home to maggots in my room.  Yuck, I think I would mentally be ready for that return trip to Minnesota.  So please pray that the maggots at least stay out of my room.

On that note.. I hope you all enjoy your nummy and delicious easter meals! hehe.

Thanks for reading.. sorry no pictures today!

Cheers,
Brookie
